im trying to do my math homework and im using my old high school calculator. which is the TI-80.

the problem is 34x6.4 1/2 or 34 x 6.4 and one half. i know the answer is 219.30

but how do you type that into the calculator? i know i used to be able to. then again high school was 3 years ago. oh the things you forget right when you need to know them. i just want to know so when its test time and i can simply use the calculator instead of doing all by hand and making improper fraction ect.

Errr...wouldn't it be 34x6.45? It still comes out to 219.30.

Hell, I don't know. I never had much use for calculators much less ones that let you use fractions.

Sure...if you ignore the fact that that's a completely different equation that gives you a completely different answer.:D Is that the kind of math they teach you in Romania? I bet you still write your "9"s like lower case "g"s. :D

Be easy on him Steve.. He has two handicaps.. One, he's Romanian and two he got his education in Ohio's educational system. :D I'm not Romanian, but a product of the later.

If memory serves Stefan didn't get to the states until his mid-late teens, so he would've been spared the indignity of being stuck in Ohio's public schools. Then again, given the choice between being educated in Romania or Ohio, I'd take Romania.:D

That's probably a wise choice. A bit of my earlier years were Florida public school systems. They were pretty good until the counting part.

34*6.4*.5 ???

actually thats right, at least the way he presented the problem. order of operations (My Dear, Aunt Sally), the only time it would make a difference is if you added or subtracted in there, dividing and multiplying order of operations dont matter. that should be right if the problem was either 34* (6.4/2) or (34 * 6.4)/2

however the problem your looking for if the answer is 219.3 is 34* 6.45 as steve said

and jeremy that crappy florida counting system got me a 780 on my SATs so they did something right for me
