View Full Version : So if you were to get a new car.....

Guidelines:
1. Under $30,000 before tax, title, etc.
2. Has to be a roomy car. Doesn't have to be a sedan but you gotta be able to put golf clubs or more than a gallon of milk in it.
3. Must be reasonable on insurance.
4. Must have torque. This pretty much rules out any Hondas (not bashing; I've owned 2).
5. Can NOT be a project. Has to be quick out of the box. Example: Get a '93 hatch and swap an engine in it. <- not good

So. Lets hear some ideas. Keep it on topic. Don't argue with another person about why your choice is better. Everyone has an opinion and I wanna hear 'em. I'll list what I'm looking at after I see some ideas. ;)

Acura RSX type S A-SPEC (tight car especially in the back, but its honda and its sporty. The A-SPEC makes the rsx look much better)

Dodge SRT-4 (I would lease it, I'm not sure of the car's reliability)

Ford Mustang GT Coupe (But It would be really cool if you could get the Mach1)

I would probably look at some of the cars already mentioned, plus the new TL (280hp isn't that bad at all) and a few others I can't name of the top of my head right now.

I thought it was only the TL's that came with A-SPEC?

Gas mileage. I drive about 50 miles a day to/from work. Lacks room.

RSX is ok. Still I'd prefer more room. You're probably right about the SRT.
Not sure how the gas mileage will run on the Stang.
350Z lacks room.
Maxima is REALLY pushing the $30k limit.
The new F-150's are nice! But no truck for me.

Finally someone mentions the IS300. ;) Its one of my choices.

Here's the list
EVO8
WRX (maybe an STi, scoop is crazy)
IS300

I test drove an EVO yesterday. All I have to say is wow. Its an amazing car. I may be able to get a good deal on it as well. We'll see.
I'm hoping to make it to a Subaru dealer to test drive a WRX. And then over to the Lexus dealer. The IS300 is sort of my "realistic dream car". I've wanted one ever since they came out. Last April I promised myself I'd have one in 2 years. We'll see what happens.

Are you too tall?

Get WRX or EVO or IS300 or Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Don't get GTO cuz USA made the engine weak.

I perfer Sedan than coupe.

What about Audi S4?

nindoo
03-26-2004, 06:03 PM
I totatally forgot about Audi

good obervation pbateson.

The IS300, is a nice car. Its rear wheel drive and its got a straight six. I find its a little bit pricey for the car, but then again its cheaper then a bmw.

If I were to finance the car I would calculate the difference of buying a new car and a used car.

Lets say the dealer gives you 3% and you decide to finance $30,000 for 4 years you pay $31,873

Lets say your buying a used car and you need to finance $25,000 for 4 years and their rate is 7%, you end up paying $28,735

So If there is a 5k difference between a new and used car's sticker price, I think I would go new.

Yeah I drive 50 miles a day for work. Gas mileage is a BIG plus. That 302 would drain a tank faster than I could fill it up.

Look into a new accord. I got mine fully loaded with the navi for 27900 (had to haggle) but i love the car. You should defnitly go test drive one.

I drive 50 mile to work everday and get 30 mpg. The car has a good amount of power. You should defintly go take a look at one.

all i have to say is 350Z!!!

not to mention it's based off the 3.5L vq series engine which i think won some sort of award, and since i also own a maxima which runs a destroked version (vq30de) i know that it is very torquey and has big top end nut. Raise the displacement and mate it with a 6speed tranny and the awesome 350 z body and you have a combination for performance, style, and potential to have wet-panties thrown all over your car. Not to mention there's some nice performance mods out there and i think the as tested price is usually around 32k ish.

Not necessarily. It's owned by GM but it's like a satellite company...the same way Ford owns Jaguar or Land Rover. It still has it's own management, soppliers, etc. so I'm sure nothing will change. I wouldn't even be suprised if GM actually tried to increase the prices just to milk it for all it's worth. Like the Hummers. The H2 is a Hot Wheels car compared to the sort of "missle attack...what missle attack?" original Humvee (now the H1). Those things were practically indestructable...they were NOT grocery getters.

Well I was going to just drop the entire idea. I gave myself the weekend to calmly & logically think about. And I had decided against getting a new car now.

Well then I get a call today at 4pm from the sales man. He just got an EVO in off lease or trade (not sure) with ~7000 miles on it. And to top it off, its the silver color with the moonroof. The same exact setup that I test drove. *sigh* So I'm going in tomorrow at lunch and seeing what kind of magic numbers they can give me.

My fiance is gonna kill me. I haven't even had the Eclipse for a year. I had my 2 previous cars for about 2 years each. Then again I regretted getting a convertible about a week after I had it. Don't get me wrong the car is FAST. Especially with the minor upgrades. I don't have issues with alot of the cars around. My logic has shifted to needing space. Damn I guess I'm getting old.:|

nindoo

The WRX STI has a poor engine reliability review, so really check out the EVO's report.

Its fun to have a really tuned car, but you don't want to be at the garage every month.

What's happening to VW, they are getting horrible engine reliability ratings.

I would of reccomended a vr6 jetta, but I hear from many resources that its reliability is questionable.

RSX TYPE A-SPEC has a good backgorund when it comes to reliability(Integra), and it should be fun to drive. But two doors.

Maybe in Ohio there are used RSX-Type S's, could help you save some cash.

Remember to check the rate to finance a new car and the rate the finance the old car and compare the amount you end up paying the loan creditors.

Addict
04-01-2004, 09:21 PM
Well...
Subarus have always gotten bad reliablity ratings. Not sure why. Same with VW.

As far the 'really tuned car'. Ever owned a DSM?;) If you lapse on the regular maintenance, you'll know. These cars need regular lovin'.

That said. I came to my senses and decided to keep the GS-T. I'm just going to keep it till it falls apart or blows up..... or both. So up next is the exhaust & coilovers(never installed the skunk2's i had).
....so hondaman needs to hook a brutha up!

most VW's are made in Mexico and the VW GTI is made in Brazil. There bolted together, that could be why there quality has decreased. I guess WRX's problems come from making there engines so tuned. I guess they are still working on the refining part.

What about a TSX 6 speed manual ?It's got some torque and horsepower. Its much heavier than a RSX TYPE S that the only thing I don't like once you start moving up the model lineup.

There's a new golf R32. I find it pretty nice, I'm not sure whether its made in germany. The MSRP is 29,100 so I'm pretty sure its more than 30k when you go to the dealer.
