View Full Version : Why do some do this?

My oldest friend has a place of his own. Every now and then when I drive by there, I see this black Honda Civic SI sitting there. Last night I finally met the guy, and I asked him if he ever thought about modifying his SI. He told me that it is not an SI, but actually an EX. He put on an SI badge, the red/clear tail lights, and the SI rims. When I finally looked at the front of the car, he had the 96-98 headlights and front end. I don't understand why some pretend to have something that they don't. You pull up next to a another EX with intake and exhaust and get beaten, but that other guy thinks that he is spanking an SI. I would be embarrassed!!...lol I told him that instead of going through all that trouble he should have just bought an SI for crying out loud. I know that everybody does their own thing, and I respect everything that everyone does, but still I don't understand. I was hoping that someone would let me in on the secret...lol.

its because an EX is cheaper than an SI....
if you dont got the $$ for an SI, but want people to think that you have one, this is what you do

I'm all for SI tails, etc. but changing the badging on your car is just wrong.

Me too bro. I love the SI tail lights, and even the rims. I think it was the badge that got me thinking about it. I don't understand why some do it.

Yeah, the EX is cheaper than the SI, but I would laugh at someone, like I almost did to this guy, if he told me that he had an SI, but I saw the 96-98 front end and headlights on it. Any person that knows anything about the body of a Honda Civic could tell by the front of the car that it's not an SI. At least the guy was honest about it, but I think that he was only honest cause once I looked at it and knew that it wasn't an SI, he just told me to save face.

Yeah, that I don't get.
What I like when people do is if they have an Si, they take of the badge and shave that spot so you can't tell what it is...or at least harder to tell. That makes it interesting onthe street!

tru... it wouldve been better if the guy didnt skimp out on redoin the front lights after getting rear lights, badge and rims... maybe its still in the works?

poor show..... if he doesnt redo the front anyone who knows a little bout SI's will know its a phoney... unless they dont see the front:no:

IMO if the guy went to the trouble of doing what he did.. he should really finish it

badges are gHey shave em... leave it a mystery to what engine is under the hood. i've noticed over 1/2 of the type-r's si's and 4th gen vtec preludes are debadged because they know what they have and dont need to prove it to anyone else. i took mine off, then i got in a wre, and theut one back on, and clear coated over it ;( its on there forever now

I never could figure that out. Why would you want to look faster (not saying the Si is a speed demon)?

I'll never understand that. There's more than just badges. The headrests are a dead give away. The front end, side skirts, front lip, yadda yadda...

One of these days I'll sell my Honda.......
